Marvin Cheechoo - Cree, President

 
     After graduating from Briercrest Bible College, Marvin pastored his home church in Moose Factory for thirteen years. Now residing in Sudbury, ON with his wife Carol Ann and family, he assists in pastoral leadership at the Sudbury First Nation Church. He has been on the board of Rising Above since its inception and President since 1996.
Selma Poulin - Oji-Cree, Board Member

 
  Selma holds an M.A. in Biblical Couselling from Providence Theological Seminary. She and her husband Dave and family reside in Sioux Lookout, ON. Drawing from her many years of counselling experience she authored a practical manual entitled, How to Counsel a Sexually Abused Person.
Linda Martin - Oji-Cree

 
  Linda holds an M.A. in Biblical Counselling from Providence Theological Seminary and is presently living in Sioux Lookout, ON with her husband Rick and two girls. Linda and Rick work for My People International in a counselling and teaching ministry to her people.
Howard Jolly - Cree, Guest Speaker

 
  Howard holds a Master of Divinity from Providence Theological Seminary and pastors the First Nations Alliance Church in Winnipeg. He also sings with the Rising Above Band. He and his wife Karen and two children reside in Niverville, MB. Howard is the author of Hope for the Hurting.
Joanna Shaule - Guest Speaker

 
  After receiving her M.A. in Biblical Counselling from Providence Theological Seminary, Joanna returned to teach counseling. She has been a guest speaker at Rising Above conferences for 15 years. Presently, she has a counseling practice in Lucan, ON, where she resides with her husband Darrell and family.
Daren George - Wet’suwet’en, Staff Member
 

Wet’suwet’en, Rising Above Staff, Diploma Biblical Counseling, Providence Theological Seminary, Daren and his wife Marilyn live in Telkwa, BC where he is a respected leader in his church and community. Prior to coming on staff, he served on the board of Rising Above for many years. Daren is passionate about helping his people.
 

Karyn Meekis - Kiowa, Guest Speaker
 

Karyn, her husband Clarence and their three children live in Thunder Bay ON. They are involved in church and youth leadership both focusing on First Nations. She speaks to youth and women’s groups and shares her story of abandonment, childhood sexual abuse, healing and restoration.
 

Steve Masterson - Guest Speaker

 
  After completing his M.A. in Counselling, Steve taught in the counselling program at the Providence Theological Seminary for twenty-seven years. Since then he is the National Education Director for Promise Keepers Canada and conducts seminars across Canada on men’s issues and marriage enrichment. He and his wife Jackie reside in Abbotsford, BC.
